Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, told the European Parliament that the EU can only address the challenges of a changing world by standing up for its values.

He said EU nations should recommit to the principles of freedom, democracy and the rule of law. 

Frieden urged continued support for Ukraine, investment in common defence and support for an open, competitive economy to build a strong, independent EU.

On September 10, Members of the European Parliament questioned Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in the first State of the Union debate since 2024’s European elections.  
 
They evaluated the Commission’s work so far, exchanging views about the EU’s future and how to deal with major challenges: on security and defence, the economy and cost of living , climate change, migration, democracy and much more. The debate turned to the next EU long-term budget - and how it must adapt to new realities.

On 19th May 2026, the European Parliament organises the first ceremony of the European Order of Merit, in Strasbourg. The European Order of Merit honours the achievements of individuals who have made a significant contribution to European integration or to the promotion and defence of the values enshrined in the Treaties. It aims to inspire future generations, highlighting civic courage and commitment to European ideals.This footage includes stock shots of the medals, which are awarded at three distinct levels of honour: Member of the Order, Honourable Member of the Order and Distinguished Member of the Order.

The EU Electrification Action Plan, expected in mid-2026, aims to boost electricity’s share of final energy consumption from 23% to 35% by 2030, targeting 50-70% by 2050 to achieve climate neutrality. Key pillars include accelerating heat pump deployment, industrial electrification, grid infrastructure upgrades, and strengthening energy security via decarbonized, locally produced power. CopenHill, also known as Amager Bakke, is a pioneering waste-to-energy plant in Copenhagen, Denmark, that doubles as a year-round artificial ski slope, hiking trail, and climbing wall. Operated by Amager Ressourcecenter (ARC), it processes 440,000 tons of non-recyclable waste annually, supplying electricity and district heating to 150,000 households in the Danish capital.

The initiative "Stop destroying videogames" aims to require publishers who sell or license video games to consumers in the European Union — including related features and downloadable content — to ensure those games remain in a functional, playable state. In particular, it seeks to prevent publishers from remotely shutting down games before first providing reasonable means for those games to continue working independently. The initiative does not seek to claim ownership of the games or their associated intellectual property and monetization rights, nor does it expect publishers to continue actively supporting a game after discontinuation — only that it be left in a reasonably playable condition.
