Recent atrocities in Northern Nigeria: extracts from the debate

SOUNDBITE (English), Federica MOGHERINI, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the EC, "In the last few months alone hundreds of innocents civilians have been killed, more kidnapped, and thousands displaced. the attack on the border town of Baga last week is only the latest in a long series of attacks and bombings and increasingly frequent attacks. Into Cameron demonstrates threat is regional and is getting even more so".

SOUNDBITE (English), Federica MOGHERINI, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy / Vice-President of the EC, "In the medium-term is crucial that the people of this state have also a prospect for development and jobs and a government that can protect them and respond to their needs. Are we helpless against all terrorist activities in Sub Sahara Africa from Niger, Chad, Mauritania, Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia?"

And last Monday the Nigerian Minister of Defends said that his army was loosing the war against Boko Haram and only an international coalition could provide a solution".
