SOUNDBITE (in German): Christa KLASS (EPP, DE), rapporteur: "We have made clear that we want the European Union authorisation for biocides. We are standing behind this position since the 1st reading and I think that we have good possibilities to guarantee security for the consumers, for the citizens and furthermore to have biocide products in application, that was most important for the European Parliament."

SOUNDBITE (in German): Christa KLASS (PPE, DE), rapporteur: "We are in a process where we give for the first time authorisation for the application of biocides and of course there are some National Member states which have some reservations concerning an EU authorisation system, but if we want to progress in the Internal market and if we want to provide more common standards in the EU, we have to do more together. At the moment this is the problem. Member states requested from the European Union a lot of special conditions for creating this authorisation and therefore we will still continue our work together with the European Council."
