On 24 February 2022 Russia launched an all-out assault on Ukraine. European leaders and the European Parliament condemned this unprovoked and unjustified military aggression in the strongest possible terms, as it grossly violates international law and undermines European and global security. I know that the brave people of Ukraine will not give up and neither will we", said Roberta METSOLA, EP President. The nomination singles out Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his bravery, endurance and devotion to his people. It also mentions the role of individuals, representatives of civil society initiatives and state and public institutions.
