2010 - a budget fit for the crisis?

The 2010 EU budget in the midst   of the economic crisis.

As per usual cohesion policy and agriculture   take the lion’s share with 80% of funds.

After several rounds of negotiations   between the parliament and Council,

a sum was set:   more than 122 billion euros.

Economic recovery, job creation,   investment in technologies

including green technologies   to help the European economy

and make more competitive in economic   crisis that is the core of the budget.

2.4 billion euros are allocated   to support European economic revival.

300 million euros have also been pledged   to help the crisis struck dairy sector.

The 2010 budget is the last   under the Nice Treaty.

The Lisbon Treaty will change how things   are done for the 2011 budget.

From now on we’ll no longer   have 2 readings.

All that toing and froing   between European institutions

and above all we’ll have an   independent budget committee,

and the EP will have the last word   on agriculture,

and many other matters besides.   It’s a major democratic advance.

The EU budget 2010 will cost   EU citizens around 270 euros.
