Citizens who were at the core of the Conference on the Future of Europe's work came to Brussels to check how the EU institutions are following up on their recommendations for change.     

A unique exercise in participatory democracy, the Conference wrapped up in May 2022, delivering dozens of proposals to make sure Europe can deal with upcoming challenges. 
    
The Parliament, the Council and the Commission had promised since the beginning to follow up on its final proposals, whatever those may be. 

On 2 December, representatives from the three institutions took questions from citizens at a feedback event in the European Parliament in Brussels.

A unique exercise in participatory democracy,

the Conference on the Future of Europe saw hundreds of people

from across the EU work in citizens' panels

to table recommendations on how to improve the Union.

Seven months on, at a feedback event in Brussels,

representatives of the EU's three main institutions answered questions

on how they are acting on the Conference's proposals.

This was not a one-off exercise for the European Union.

Your proposals are not some checklist that we need to tick,

to close the door on the Conference on the Future of Europe

The Conference proposed hundreds of measures

on areas ranging from the environment, migration and equality,

to rights, democracy and the EU's global role

all brought into sharp focus by the war in Ukraine

and to deliver on citizens' expectations.

What we have seen is the need for social support

the need for an energy transition, for an energy union.

there is more reason to implement the conclusions

their commitment to change and accountability still strong.
