Lamiya Aji Bashar and Nadia Murad, winners of the 2016 Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought, want Islamic State criminals brought to justice for crimes they say amount to genocide.

I feel that this prize is a prize for every woman and girl 

that has been sexually enslaved by IS. ##@#

The last IS member who bought me was an Iraqi doctor called Islam. 

I managed to escape with my childhood friend, 

Catherine and Almas, a nine-year-old child. 

During our escape, Catherine accidentally walked over a landmine.

It was the last sound I heard from her. ##@#

I very much ask you and urge you to promise 

that never again will you allow such a crime to happen.

The International Criminal Court must act, 

it must investigate crimes committed by the so-called Islamic State, 

because these crimes against humanity by the IS 

must be taken to the International Criminal Court.##@#

Without a doubt the IS committed a genocide. 

This genocide is not only carried out by killing,

but also by systematically enslaving women and taking children. ##@#

They started by killing the disabled and the elderly, and women they did not desire for themselves. 

Then they destroyed places of worship and infrastructure, so that we wouldn’t return. 

From here I would like to tell IS and all the terrorists in the world:

if you have chosen for yourself the path of indignity, 

then Europe has chosen for itself the path of humanity and honour.
