A larger budget for the Erasmus+ programme focuses on mobility, education, innovation and inclusion. MEPs want to modernise the programme and foster a sense of European belonging through expanded mobility schemes and digital skills development.

New Erasmus+ budget to boost mobility and opportunities for youth

Over 9 million people have taken part in the Erasmus+ programme 

The Parliament is putting forward a proposal to triple the funding 

for the scheme in the post-2020 EU budget.

This funding boost would create even more mobility opportunities

 for a wider range of people, from school pupils to adult learners.

The EU wants to make the programme more accessible

 to people with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds.

We focused on making it more inclusive for EU citizens, 

regardless of their socio-economic background. 

We provided a lot more funds for student mobility.

Erasmus+ puts the emphasis on lifelong learning – 

whether that's learning new languages, developing digital skills or practising sport.

The programme will also introduce Centres of Vocational Excellence – 

trans-national platforms that provide quality vocational training 

so that people can develop useful skills in certain sectors.

We hope that these centres for vocational excellence will have a positive effect 

on the development of vocational education in the European Union,

 which is why all of these initiatives are very important.

With the new funding, Erasmus+ participants will be able to gain skills 

that set them up for the challenges of the 21st century, 

in sectors like digitalisation and climate.
