The Chinese refuse to pay the EU's new airline carbon tax, a financial transaction tax gets a public hearing and oil tanker safety is voted upon.

China has banned its airlines  from paying the EU’s new carbon tax,

The USA, Russia and India  have also voiced disapproval

over the EU’s intention to cut C02 through  its emissions trading scheme charges.

Stick to your guns, make sure that  everyone pays the same level

and that the revenues go to the climate fund  helping other states fight climate change.

If you do all that, you have a strong case,  and in the end the others will follow.

The momentum continues to grow  in the EU for a financial transaction tax.

A public hearing was held in the EP  on the controversial proposal.

France has already announced  it will go ahead with the tax.

The MEP in charge of the dossier feels  an EU approach would be preferable.

if it goes on with its own version  of the financial transaction tax,

would be ready to make  the appropriate adjustments

when we are able  to have an agreement at EU level.

The EU wants double-hulled vessels  as standard.

Single hull vessels  like the tankers Erika and Prestige

cause massive environmental damage  once breached.

The Transport Committee voted on a report  to speed up safety on the high seas.
