The European Commission determined today, 23rd of April 2025, that Apple violated the DMA's anti-steering rules, while Meta failed to comply with the requirement to offer users a less data-intensive service. As a result, Apple was fined €500 million and Meta €200 million. The DMA aims to ensure contestable and fair markets in the digital sector. It regulates gatekeepers, which are large digital platforms that provide an important gateway between business users and consumers.
