MEPs are expected to convey the EU’s stance on digital regulation and safe markets, particularly regarding breaches of EU law and the high-volume of non-compliant small parcels coming from China.

In Shanghai, MEPs continue discussions on compliance with EU digital market rules and fair competition with Temu. They also gain firsthand insight into China’s customs controls and import/export activities at the strategic Pudong International Airport, together with the China Customs Administration and a local logistics company.

In Beijing, the delegation meets with political leaders, including Shen Chunyao, Chairperson of the Standing committee of the National People’s Congress, and Luo Wen, Minister of State Administration for Market Regulation. MEPs also visit the EU Chamber of Commerce to discuss online trade and market access challenges faced by European companies in China. The delegation discusses consumer and product safety standards with the e-commerce giants Shein and Alibaba.

This video presents extracts from the joint debate (15.06) and vote in plenary (16.06) on the EU-US trade deal. The agreed proposals, already endorsed by Parliament and Council negotiators, aim to remove most tariffs on industrial and agricultural goods from the United States. Additionally, negotiators have strengthened several aspects of the Commission’s initial proposal. The agreement introduces a sunset clause, under which tariff preferences for industrial and agri-food imports will expire on 31 December 2029 unless renewed. It also includes safeguard measures to protect the EU’s industrial and agricultural sectors, enhances provisions related to the suspension clause, and establishes clear conditions for tariff reductions on steel and aluminum derivatives.

China is the EU's second-largest trading partner for trade in goods alone, after the United States. For the EU, ensuring reciprocity, achieving a level-playing field, and addressing asymmetries in the relationship are matters of priority. The EU remains committed to addressing these challenges through dialogue with China and underscores the importance of the WTO as the best avenue to address the root causes of the current imbalance.
