SOUNDBITE (French), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, Tunisia is in a dramatic combat. We need a deepened cooperation between the EU and Tunisia, especially since the Tunisian constitutional model is so very close to the European constitutional model, based on fundamental values, that&rsquo;s primordial, so it is not surprising that Tunisia is the target of terrorist attacks, because this society is contrary to what they want. So for us Europeans it is our duty to cooperate with Tunisia.

SOUNDBITE (French), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, the EP is following closely the adoption of trade rules on olives, and olives are extremely important for the country, I have discussed that with the Head of the Government. Also the cooperation in the security domain, trust must be regained, especially that of tourists, that it is possible to spend holidays here because the tourism sector is as we have seen in the last months, is on its knees, it needs to be redressed.

SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, EP President,Tunisia is a model of an open and pluralist society here in the region. The Tunisians have adopted a constitution that is almost identical with the value-oriented constitutions of the Member States of the EU. Tunisia is by long tradition a very open society and it is therefore not surprising that it is the target of jihadist terrorism. Solidarity must be shown to the country.

SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, we will bring about closer cooperation between the parliaments, infrastructural cooperation but also training of members and officials, and at the same time I have discussed with the Head of Government about more cooperation in the domain of security and tourism, the EU must invest in this.
