SOUNDBITE (English), Jessica POLFJ&#196;RD (EPP, SE), There was an interesting meeting with the Chinese delegation, and I think that it's important that there is a recovery between the Chinese and the Americans, that they are on speaking terms again and because it is important for the rest of the world as well. And we can see that the development in China is growing rapidly. And of course we always say that are other parts of the world also have to be responsible for their emissions. And so China has to do a lot and to do more in order for us as a global world to reach the goals that we had agreed upon already.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL), Chair of the EP delegation, So we're still before the final day. And t's really unclear where, when this will end. It's very clear what the discussion topics are. So it's clear we as a world are not doing enough on climate action. So we need to do more. So the mitigation the ambition on mitigation is still high on the agenda. But will we get more than what we got out of Glasgow last year? That's the big question. We are still hoping that there will be some strong language on the phasing down of fossils because we really do think that is important. But if we go to next year, there will be the global stocktake as that is being framed by the Paris Agreement, that would mean kind of the world will then start looking at action also towards 2035.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL),  I think we all know that that also before 2030 we need to do more than what has been promised until now. So I think it's very important in this mitigation plan. We are really also stressing that before 2030 we still need an increase of ambition and that kind of language at least needs to come out of the mitigation part of Sharm el Sheikh 

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL), Chair of the EP delegation, he other big issue is loss and damage. And I don't think we can afford to have, again, loss and damage on the agenda next year as the make or break topic. So in that sense, we need to really make a major step here and we will not have a fully fledged facility on loss and damage. That's because that's too much open ended. It's also clear that a loss and damage facility will not be the only outcome. But then how that will look like, who will contribute to that? How do we ensure it's really reaching the vulnerable countries that probably will be much more of a process.
