Leaders from NATO member states continuously coordinate efforts to increase collective defense spending in response to the persistent threat of Russian aggression and ongoing shifts in the transatlantic security landscape. Under the "5% Commitment" established at the 2025 Summit in the Netherlands, allies are working toward a two-tiered investment goal: allocating 3.5% of GDP to core defense and 1.5% to broader security infrastructure, such as cyber resilience and energy protection.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasizes that the alliance faces a long-term period of systemic competition. With Russia maintaining a high-tempo military industrial output, NATO focuses on ensuring a credible and modernized deterrent.

The EU and NATO have founded their long-standing partnership, in an environment shaped by common principles and values. The European Parliament and NATO engage frequently in active dialogue in order to deepen mutual understanding and consolidate cooperation. In an increasingly volatile and unstable geopolitical context, the dynamic of cooperation has intensified to face new threats ranging from terrorism to climate change to hybrid warfare.
