State of the Union 2018: statement by Manfred WEBER (EPP,DE), EPP Group Leader

SOUNDBITE (EN): Manfred WEBER, (EPP, DE), EPP Group Leader:  For us as EPP family the most important thing is that people see us working, very actively working, delivering on the concerns of the people, on the problems they are raising and putting for us on the table.  And there are several of them: first of all it is about security, to give the people security in the European Union, border protection is one important element, but on the other it is also to fight against organised crime and terrorism, still an important challenge, therefore for us exchange of date is a precondition to solving these problem. The second point I want to raise is: we have to work for a fair Europe, a new approach of fairness in the European Union, we know that globalisation and digitalisation will change everything, there will be a revolution ahead of us, for the labour markets for example and to create a certain ground for the people, that they can count on a social model in the European Union is crucial for creating stability in the European Union.  There are two items where we are looking forward to ideas from Jean-Claude Juncker and he can count fully on our support.
