The Transport (TRAN) Committee votes on new rules to increase the use of sustainable aviation fuels, such as synthetic fuel, used cooking oil or even hydrogen, by aircraft operators and EU airports, in order to cut emissions from aviation and ensure Europe becomes climate neutral continent by 2050 (part of "Fit for 55"). Results of the vote: 25 in favour, 6 against, 3 abstentions. The vote is adopted. 2 shots.

SOUNDBITE (English), S&#248;ren GADE (Renew, DK), Rapporteur, <p>It is very difficult to decarbonise the aviation industry and that is also why it cost a lot of money. And we also have to do it right. So we, I mean, we use the use of residues for the fuel. We talk to the industry if they can deliver on the e-fuels, we do everything we can to make sure that that we create a market for the new fuels. But we also have to take into consideration that it would cost a lot of money. We are, in the Parliament's position right now, at least what we voted for today. We are more ambitious than the what is on the table from the Commission. The blending mandate will go up and up and up until 2050. So this is a journey that starts today, and it will be looked into every third year because to be honest with you, we cannot nail it from now on and up until 2050, something will happen out in the real world and we have to take it in consideration. But I am very pleased that apparently, as it looks today, there is a broad majority for for this for this proposal. </p>

SOUNDBITE (English), S&oslash;ren GADE (Renew, DK), Rapporteur, I really do hope that I can convince my colleagues that this is the best. I have had you know, this ambition should create compromises. And I have really have a blank piece of paper when I started, but I had to make sure that I had a majority on the different main points. And I succeeded in getting all the 19 compromises. I got a thumbs up here tonight, and I really appreciate that. 

SOUNDBITE (English), S&oslash;ren GADE (Renew, DK), Rapporteur, Yeah, I mean, the blending mandate is higher and the end result, I think the commission's proposal is for 63% mine is now 85 and new laws, you have e-fuels coming up already in 2025 instead of 2030. So we really try also to to create a market more quickly than in the commission's proposal. But having said that, of course, we have to go into the trialogue and we also have to agree on something that will also be workable in the real world. I mean, we also have to take that into consideration.
