In the European Union, democracy may seem obvious to us today. But this has not always been the case. Not so long ago, millions of Europeans lived through times when they could not vote or even speak up freely. When their very lives could be in danger simply for being different, for holding different beliefs or for wanting a different life. Democracy is a precious gift passed on to us from previous generations. They aspired towards it and fought for it. Now it is up to us to maintain it, to make it stronger and pass it on to the generations to come. The most effective way to do so is by voting - because the more people vote, the stronger democracy becomes. On June 6-9 2024: Use your vote or others will decide for you.

Bija 1989. gads. Andrea bija septiņi gadi, viņš dzīvoja Itālijā, savā dzimtajā pilsētiņā Forte dei Marmi Tirēnu jūras piekrastē. Šajā dzīves posmā Andrea bija sācis atklāt pasauli. Kopā ar ģimeni viņi ceļoja pa Itāliju un Eiropu — no austrumiem uz rietumiem un no ziemeļiem uz dienvidiem — un pieredzēja arī to, kā robežas sašķeļ pasauli. Taču tad kādā 1989. gada novembra dienā šo cilvēku skatījums uz Eiropu pilnībā mainījās. Satumstot vakaram, iestājās pagrieziena punkts visas Eiropas vēsturē. Simtiem stāstu, dokumentu, fotogrāfiju un videomateriālu, ko publicējuši cilvēki no visas Eiropas. Šis ir Eiropas Parlamenta sadarbības projekts “Mana vēsture”, un tā mērķis ir stāstīt par cilvēku likteņiem Eiropas vēstures līkločos. The video game ecosystem has become a leading cultural and creative industry all over the world. It has an estimated European market size of EUR 23.3 billion in 2021, and it encompasses more than 4 900 game studios and 200 game publishers, with great potential for growth, innovation, creativity and triggering positive change for the whole sector.

Video games have proven to be a powerful cross-sectoral medium, successfully inspiring and drawing on many other creative and cultural industries, such as films and books. According to the Interactive Software Federation of Europe, half of all Europeans consider themselves to be video game players, of whom almost half are women, and the average age of a video game player in Europe is 31.3 years. Over 70 % of young people aged 6-24 in the EU play video games, although the majority of players are over 18.

On January 2023,&nbsp;Parliament called for gamers to be better protected from addiction and other manipulative practices, while emphasising the potential of this innovative sector.
