SOUNDBITE (English), Jytte GUTELAND (S&amp;D, SE), Rapporteur, I believe that actually we created a new history for Europe. This is an historic day and historic night. I see the law as a newborn that will grow stronger and stronger and take the leadership for climate, so the climate law will be stronger and stronger. The element that integrated science into this climate law, both in different paragraphs, also with the greenhouse gas budget and the advisory board, where experts will evaluate how we do in comparison to Paris.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jytte GUTELAND (S&amp;D, SE), Rapporteur, We have a target for the whole European Union, but it must be very clear that the member states are doing its part on this travel towards climate neutrality, and it cannot be that some member states are delivering for the rest of the member states. It's really important that all member states work both on their reduction part and also on their sink and how they can remove emissions. And that can look different and it will be different tools in the member states, but all have to contribute. And then, of course, there will be the just transition fund to help those who have a tougher way to reach the target. And there will also, of course, be better opportunities for job when you do it.

SOUNDBITE (French), Pascal CANFIN (Renew, FR), ENVI Chair, Everything that we have done has a consequence. We are going to go 2.5 times faster in the decade from 2020 to the end of 2030, compared to the past decade 2010-2020. It is like when you are driving a car and your speed is 50 km/ h, 2.5 times faster is 125 km. You can see very well the difference between driving at 50 km / h and driving at 125 km / h. This is exactly what the climate law is. We are going to accelerate the fight against climate change in a considerable way.

SOUNDBITE (French), Pascal CANFIN (Renew, FR), ENVI Chair, It is the most important law, above all the other 50 laws that will be amended in Europe in order to be able to apply this climate law into sectoral legislation, in very specific issues that respond to concrete subjects. For example batteries, the automobile, buildings, transport, renewable energies, etc. 50 laws. So when you change 50 laws on the same time, inevitably, it ends up producing a systemic change. And that's exactly what we need with the Green deal.

And I know that during the EU - US summit, the European Parliament helped the European Union to take that leadership this week, and show that we are not only doing what we said a year ago, we are improving it. And we have a law that will help us improve it further, and further, and further during the upcoming years. And the US is not our big brother on climate. We are the big brother or the big sister. So they will be actually encouraged by this, they will be pressed by this, they will need to deliver when they see what we have accomplished.

SOUNDBITE (English), Pascal CANFIN (Renew, FR), ENVI Chair, This climate law is a game changer. There is a "before the climate law" and an "after the climate law". Of course, climate neutrality is set in the law. We are amongst the very first in the world to do so.
