SOUNDBITE (French), Pascal CANFIN (RE, FR), ENVI Chair, On the name of the ENVI and the PECH Committees, I would like to welcome the Commissioner-designate on the topics of environment and oceans, it is the secong heraing of the ENVI Committee, this time together with the PECH Committee, as they are similar topics.... When we looked on the list of the commissioners-designate, we first saw the age : 28 years old, you age, mister Commissuioner-designate. Which is not a problem, at the contrary we would need more Commissioners of 28 years old, I hope, as we need to have all generations .

It's a great honour for me to be here as the first commissioner designate born after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It's a sign of trust in my generation, a generation with a European idea in its DNA. To me Europe means freedom and fairness openness and opportunity. And in the same time it means taking responsibility.
