Title: Infoclip: Biodiversity in Europe &#8211; Marine biodiversity

1. MARINE LIFE - Illustration of sea and coastal landscape. Footage from partners of the LIFE INTEMARES project, among others from the Tursiops Association, Palma de Mallorca, which aims of contributing to the conservation and protection of cetaceans, as well as to promote the dissemination of the research carried out on them, focusing especially on the western Mediterranean environment.&copy; TURSIOPS Association 2020For non-commercial use only.

An equipment permitting to capture the seabed on camera is introduced in the water.

A ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) is introduced in the water (2 shots). The remotely operated vehicle facilitates the exploration of large seabed by non-invasive means that allow direct observation of habitats and biological communities in their natural state, to study their structure and their fundamental ecological characteristics, without producing impacts on them.

The Liropus 2000 is a new ROV that operates at 2000 metres below the water. It is equipped with high definition cameras and CTD equipment to measure temperature, pressure and salinity as well as a Doppler effect current meter to study currents at the depths where it operates

2. SEAGRASS MEADOWS - The &lsquo;LIFE SEPOSSO&rsquo; project, co-funded by the EU, aims to improve the protection of Posidonia oceanica, underwater seagrass meadows, a priority marine habitat, in order to compensate for damage caused by coastal works and infrastructures. The project makes use of transplanting technique and innovative software tools, which will increase the effectiveness of planning and control of transplantation activities. The project will help raise awareness of the importance of sea meadows for marine life and the protection of marine sites of the Natura 2000 network.&copy;LIFE SEPOSSO - LIFE16 GIE/IT/000761, 2018For non-commercial use only.

3. SEA TURTULE - The EU-funded LIFE project &lsquo;LIFE Medturtles&rsquo; aims at protecting sea turtle populations within the EU and bordering areas through various activities. One of the project activities is running a rescue centre where turtles are nurtured, tagged and released back into the sea, by the Fondazione Cetacea, Italy.

When turtles grow up, they are placed in bigger tanks where they are monitored prior to their release.

4. MONK SEAL - The EU-funded LIFE project &lsquo;LIFE Madeira Monk Seal&rsquo; aims to resolve existing threats to the endangered monk seal and improve its long-term conservation in the Madeira region of Portugal. It specifically seeks to address conflict between the habitat needs of the seal and human activities in coastal areas. It will also directly intervene to restore and protect habitats used by the seal for reproduction and rest, including beaches and submerged or partially submerged sea caves.&copy; LIFE Madeira Monk Seal For non-commercial use only.
