SOUNDBITE (English), Kinga G&#193;L (EPP, HU), rapporteur, The Libe Committee since the begining has considered the Charter of FR of the EU as the very foundation of Freedom Security and Justice area related policies.

SOUNDBITE (English), Kinga G&#193;L (EPP, HU), rapporteur, It's a new momentum in the protection of FR in the EU . it's post-Lisbon new momentum after december 2009 we have now a binding charter we have an obligation to a seat to the European Convention of Human rights as EUand we have a new institution dealing with these issues in the Commission, we have a Commissioner responsible for fundamental rights.

SOUNDBITE (English), Kinga G&#193;L (EPP, HU), rapporteur, I think that now our task is to go through the existing institutions and look who id doing what in the field and what role each institutions has to play and how we can work together, on the field of EU, Member States, how the Courts can cooperate and what they can do together in order to avoid overlapping issues.

SOUNDBITE (English), Peter HUSTINX, EU Data protection supervisor, The key elements to the rights of data protection are now cast in stone at the level of primary EU law.There is a subjective right to the protection of personal data ; there is a clear language in article 16 that it is only allowed on the basis of law . It should be a lawful basis data processing should always have legal basis.

SOUNDBITE (English), Peter HUSTINX, EU Data protection supervisor, The Charter which has now become binding provides for key references for the new EU legal framework on data protection which is currently prpepared by the COmmission and gaps in the protection are not acceptable, this is why there is so much emphasis on a commprehensive, horizontal, effective framework.
