Sanctions against Janusz KORWIN-MIKKE (NI, PL) following his sexist remarks, announced by Antonio TAJANI, EP President

SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, I have decided to impose a sanction on Mr Korwin-Mikke on the remarks he made on women during the plenary siting of the 1st March 2017, on the course of the debate of gender pay gap chaired by a woman, the Vice-President Gebhardt (S&amp;D, DE) . I consider those remarks constitutive a violation of the principal laydown of Rule 11 of our Internal Rules of Procedure. Therefore in accordance of the Rule 166 of the rules of the procedure, and taking note of the written observations that Mr. Korwin-Mikke has submitted I have decided to impose the following penalties:

The first: the forfeiture of his entitlements to the daily allowances for a period of 30 days; additionally without prejudice to the right to vote in plenary, the temporary suspension for participation in all the activities of the parliament, for a period of 10 days, starting from today. Furthermore Mr. Korwin-Mikke is prohibited from representing the parliament on any parliamentary delegations, inter-parliamentary conferences, or any inter-institutional forums, for a period of 1 year starting from today.
