Trilogue on Asylum and Migration Fund: arrivals, roundtable and statements by Tanja FAJON (S&D, SI), rapporteur and by Council and Commission representatives

SOUNDBITE (English), Tanja FAJON (S&amp;D, SI), Rapporteur, I'm very happy with the outcome, especially because we speak about a very important fund for managing migration in the next years to come. We speak about almost 10 billion of euros that will be dedicated to national programs, to the thematic facility, to the Commission, how to manage migration in a way that we ensure solidarity. We ensure money for countries to resettle, relocate people for integration of people that are entitled to stay in Europe. On the other hand, we also ensure that funds available for countries to send people back if they are not entitled to stay in Europe.

SOUNDBITE (English), Tanja FAJON (S&amp;D, SI), Rapporteur, For the Parliament, it was a big achievement, especially because we will have a certain say to say in the future we will have better transparency, tougher rules, how to really follow the money flows and who will be entitled to get the money.

SOUNDBITE (English), Tanja FAJON (S&amp;D, SI), Rapporteur,  There is no fear that we would be building some sort of camps or prison in third countries.

SOUNDBITE (English), Beate GMINDER, European Commission, I think we have reached today that we can continue to support reception systems in Europe to support solidarity in a member state, between member states, that we can continue to resettle people in need from third countries to the European Union, that we can look and integrate after those that receive protection status in Europe, and that we can return those that have arrived irregularly and do not receive protection. So I think it's a very well formulated, well calibrated package, that shows an added value to the European citizens and how we deal with asylum, migration and returns.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jens SCHUMACHER, German Presidency, I think it's overall a good compromise we hope and we will check this with the member states next week. But the important thing is we have now laid down the ground for asylum migration funds for the next funding period, which gives I would say the member states the money and the flexibility to address the needs in these fields in the next seven years.
