European elections represent a crucial moment: they give EU citizens a say in the political direction of the European Union. After declining ever since the first European direct elections in 1979, electoral turn out increased in the 2019 elections to reach 50.6 % largely due to youth participation (according to a post-election Eurobarometer survey). Citizens in every EU Member State elect their representatives to the European Parliament during the European elections. In Slovenia citizens can exercise their democratic right in advance voting between 4th and 6th of June. The newly elected 9 Members, representing all EU citizens until 2029, meet in July to elect their President, Vice-Presidents and Quaestors. They decide on the composition of Parliament's standing and sub committees - thereby launching the new legislative term.
