<p>As part of a shift in EU policy towards a circular economy, the European Parliament worked on four legislative proposals introducing new waste-management targets regarding reuse, recycling and landfilling. The proposals also strengthen provisions on waste prevention and extended producer responsibility, and streamline definitions, reporting obligations and calculation methods for targets.</p>

This infoclip illustrates the packaging and packaging waste regulation. The proposed regulation would apply to all packaging and to all packaging waste. It would set out requirements for substances in packaging (e.g. restrictions on the presence of lead, cadmium, mercury and hexavalent chromium). Furthermore, all packaging would have to be recyclable. Some packaging must be compostable by two years after the entry into force of the regulation (such as filter coffee pods and sticky labels attached to fruit and vegetables). Furthermore, packaging must be designed to minimise its weight and volume. The proposal would also introduce requirements for packaging to be considered reusable. The footage shows plastic and and recyclable packaging adn different efforts to reduce waste and encourage recycling.

Die slowenische Müllverwertungsanlage RCERO in Ljubljana ist eine der größten und effizientesten Europas. 98 Prozent der hier anfallenden Abfälle werden wieder zu etwas Nützlichem - neue Objekte, Kompost oder Energie. Das Zentrum wurde vom europäischen Kohäsionsfunds unterstützt. Hunderttausende Menschen profitieren bereits davon. ​Der Abfall von 58 Dörfern und Gemeinden kommt in dem modernen Verwertungszentrum an.

Il centro di trattamento dei rifiuti di Lubiana è il più moderno e uno dei più grandi in Europa. I rifiuti di 58 municipalità finiscono qui. Al Rcero ogni anno vengono trattate 170.000 tonnellate di rifiuti, biodegradabili e no (150.000 tn/anno di rifiuti misti + 20.000 tn/anno di rifiuti raccolti separati). Il progetto è sostenuto dalla politica di coesione dell'UE, costa 155 milioni di euro compresi 77,5 milioni di euro finanziati dai fondi di coesione dell'UE.

En Slovénie, le centre de traitement des déchets de la capitale slovène Ljubljana appelé RCERO est l'un des plus grands d'Europe, mais surtout le plus moderne. Sur ce site ouvert en 2015, 170.000 tonnes d'ordures ménagères de tout type récupérées dans 58 municipalités sont transformées pour 98% d'entre eux, en nouveaux objets, compost ou biocarburant. D'ailleurs, grâce au biocarburant produit par la fermentation du compost, le centre est autosuffisant en termes d'énergie.
