Online threats, cyber violence and disinformation, including deepfakes and AI‑generated content, contribute to broader pressures on democracy by undermining trust and can silence voices, including women’s by restraining their freedom of expression. Violence targeting women in politics leads to under‑representation. The EU and the European Parliament in particular, has recognised the seriousness of such phenomena and reinforces its efforts to support women in their efforts to overcome these serious obstacles to political participation.
