SOUNDBITE (Italian), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, I was elected President of the European Parliament almost two years ago and there has not been a day of this mandate in which I have not committed myself to bringing the European Parliament closer to the citizens, leaving the bubble of Strasbourg and Brussels. Here in Caserta, we pay homage today to the legacy of one of Europe's greatest visionaries.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, In these 83 years, much of Rossi's vision has been realized: walls have fallen, and the European Union has strengthened. But war has returned to our continent; terrorism is on the rise again; health, migration and economic challenges persist.;. We can discuss semantics and labels, but the truth is that the essence of the Ventotene Manifesto remains more relevant than ever.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, There are challenges that are simply too big for any one country to respond to alone. We need Europe. Not only to live in peace... but also to be free. This fundamental intuition of the generation of pro-Europeans from Ventotene remains. The time has come to recover that sense of urgency and optimism that Rossi had in the potential of our project.
