I wish you all a warm welcome to the European Union's House of Democracy.

We are in fact the only institution directly elected by the European citizens.

The Union is facing unprecedented challenges.

We want more power for the European Parliament.

We want a real power of initiative for the European Parliament.

It is up to you to make your voice —our voice-- heard.

Our responsibility is great, because we not only represent our constituency.

Together with our colleagues, we take decisions

that shape the life of the citizens of the whole European Union.
