Reconciling austerity  with competitiveness and growth

is one the challenges  of the Parliament's Budget Committee.

Today, MEPs approved the mandate  for negotiations on the 2016 budget

with the European Commission  and the EU Council.

Two red lines for the report's author  are the reimbursement

of the 25 billion euros worth of  late payments to Member States

It is unacceptable not to pay  that which has been granted,

It's a question of credibility, of trust,  but also of growth.

investment in jobs for young people  and in SMEs,

greater solidarity between the EU states  and beyond the EU's borders.

This MEP believes that  the EU could do more with less money.

We must increasingly strive to have  a budget that also measures results.

So we have to question if it makes sense to  finance certain areas on a long-term basis.

A lot of the things that the EU funds  could be funded by the states themselves.

The next step will be  a vote in the July plenary.
