As citizens mulled over the value of investing in European values together in Frankfurt, a Parliament hearing looked at how to red-card the corruption infecting sport.

Frankfurt in Germany hosted the third  of the EP's rotating 'ReACT' conferences.

After the round on employment,  this time it was the turn of European values

and how they should be funded which was  in the hot seat for the public debate.

But what is the added value for Member  States of investment in the EU budget?

Are countries shelling out  too much money to the EU?

Experts, researchers and economists  exchanged their ideas and views.

This wide-ranging debate  is open to all citizens.

Next stop Rome, and then it's off  to Madrid from January 2014.

Sport has wound up  in the Parliament limelight,

Match fixing and corruption in sports events  was the focus of the EP's hearings.

Legal experts  and those from the world of sport

had the chance to take stock  of the outbreak of this problem.

All called for a harmonisation of sanctions.

We need very strong, effective  and dissuasive sanctions

and to detect the players or managers  who place bets on the matches.

and we are in favour of integrity in sport  and for fair play.

Since August 2013, it is alleged that  more than 50 football matches were fixed

and suspicions also weigh over 150 others.
