During her official visit to Portugal, Roberta METSOLA, EP President participates to the conference organised by the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation. The Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation organizes conferences and debates with the aim to present important insights on issues relevant to Portuguese society, gathering and giving voice to national and international experts. Six months before the European elections, the President and young people discuss on the political participation and the issues that most concern them. SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, I ask. I put questions. And I do this, also perhaps differently to four years ago, just before the last election. At the time we were not living in crisis. This mandate has been riddled by them. If you think about that, it started immediately with the pandemic and under very difficult economic recovery, and now with a war in Ukraine also in very difficult climate conditions, slow investment in renewables, etc., it is ultimately those traditional political parties that delivered the exit from the pandemic.

SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, EP President, Next year, 720 members of the European Parliament will get elected. Whether you vote or you don't, they will get elected. Now the question is when you vote and your member is there, you will have somebody to engage with for the next five years.
