SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, President of the European Parliament, <p>I am grateful for this recognition, for the work done every day, to stand up for our shared values by your representatives in the European Parliament. We need to tell the story of Europe. Particularly to a younger, more skeptical, lonelier generation. That's too often takes Europe and all of its benefits for granted. That does not remember or can even imagine a life without it. That finds it harder to relate to the value of our values. Our very purpose is to ensure that nothing like what previous generations had to endure would ever happen again. Because Europe remembers what it is like to live unfree and under oppression. And while we will always push for peace, we know that it must be a real peace. A peace with justice, a peace with liberty.</p>  <p></p>

I see this award and I take this award today, not just as recognition of what the European Parliament has done. But as a sign of support for our work in championing values based leadership. I see it as a positive reinforcement to do more to promote our values, freedom, equality, democracy and the rule of law, and to do more to stand up for Europe.
