SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The agreement which European Parliament yesterday approved with a sizeable majority is an agreement that is going to support economic growth, SMEs, it is going to be useful in the fight against unemployment, it is going to help economic development, it is going to help us defend the health of our fellow citizens, we are going to reduce bureaucracy and red tape for companies, we are going to defend the high quality of products that the EU will be exporting to Canada. And so this agreement I believe will be a first step towards strengthening even more the bonds between us and Canada.

SOUNDBITE (English), Justin TRUDEAU, Canadian Prime Minister, (EN) This trade agreement will make the lives of Canadians and Europeans better and grow our economies in an increasingly complexed and globalised economy. (FR) The ties between the Canadians and the Europeans are deep and have never been stronger. The international trade will bring a better pay for our workers. The workers in the industries with high export percentage are having, in Canada, a medium salary 50% higher, than the industries which are not exporting. So we know that the exportation and trade is a way to success. In this agreement, we are not only harmonising the commercial opportunities, but also adding the possibility for a government, or a company to protect its values and its citizens.

SOUNDBITE (English), Justin TRUDEAU, Canadian Prime Minister, international trade leads to better wages for our workers. The workers working in export industries are paid on average 50% more than industries which do not export. So we know that export and trade is the path to success. In this agreement we have been able to put emphasis on the trade opportunities, but also on the importance of a government or company to be able to protect their values and their citizens.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The European citizens, the Canadian citizens, can remain calm. This is a positive agreement, a positive agreement, done for supporting consumers, the citizens. All products imported in Europe respect strict European rules. It will be an important support for the small and medium size enterprises.

SOUNDBITE (English), Justin TRUDEAU, Canadian Prime Minister, Yes, there is a lot of anxiety up there, among citizens, about their future, about their kids&rsquo; future. But this deal is an opportunity to show that not only have we heard those anxieties, but we are going to work together to relay them, to demonstrate that we can, thoughtfully and responsibly, build for a better future, that includes opportunities for everyone. A real and fair chance for everyone to succeed. That&rsquo;s what CETA will help us to build.

That&rsquo;s we are going to see, as hopefully, this spring, a vast majority of the previsions of CETA are going to start impacting small businesses, workers, consumers, across Canada and the EU.
