SOUNDBITE (English), Miriam DALLI (S&amp;D, MT), Rapporteur, <p>We made sure that we keep to the 10.4 billion that the commission proposed; what we wanted to ensure with this vote today is that this money goes and is channeled to the pillars that are the core of the policies that deal with asylum and migration. That's why we are focusing on the Common European Asylum System. That's why we're focusing on integration and legal migration and in particular solidarity. This is something totally new that we managed to introduce to this Fund.</p>  <p>In this Parliament and in the EU as a whole we hear a lot about solidarity, but sometimes when it comes to practice, we find that there are challenges and obstacles and we wanted to make sure that we have solidarity in practice.</p>

SOUNDBITE (English), Miriam DALLI (S&amp;D, MT), Rapporteur, e also give funding to the local and regional authorities. It was unfortunate that we had the conservative forces within the LIBE Committee that focused primarily on giving money to third countries rather than making sure that we give proper solidarity to the frontline members. This is the only Fund for asylum migration and integration and it is extremely important that we show solidarity concretely with the frontline members who, as things stand, have to face the challenges that go with Asylum and Migration.
