SOUNDBITE (English), Sabine VERHEYEN (EPP, DE), Chair Committee on Culture and Education,, We are quite happy that we could reach a good agreement, a fair, balanced agreement with the council today and the commission, what was most important is that we got more money into the program. It's not as much as the parliament asked for. We wanted a doubling. But we in the last program, we had one point four billion and now we have two point two billion. So it's a raise of nearly 800 million euros and that's a lot of money and the cultural and creative sector. So we are quite happy that we could reach the agreement. The split inside the program will be the same like in the past, but we want to have the program more adhesive to the cultural sector and the needs we have explicitly under the covid-19 crisis.

SOUNDBITE (English), Sabine VERHEYEN (EPP, DE), Chair Committee on Culture and Education, We have the envelope which is already raised via money out of the program, but we get also a top on from the fees that come in to the European budget during the next years. So this money is also guaranteed so that the amount of money of two point two billion are secured for the next seven years and the program.

SOUNDBITE (English), Sabine VERHEYEN (EPP, DE), Chair Committee on Culture and Education, Yeah, the cultural sector was impacted by the covid-19 crisis more than all the other sectors because the first shutdown was done for the cultural and creative sectors, all theaters, concerts, everything was canceled. And so again during the summer, it was not allowed to have big concerts and the cinemas had to close down movies and the production of movies were postponed. And also the launch of new movies that were already finished must also be postponed. So there is a big mess for the sector. And that's also the reason why the parliament is, in addition, asking for a share of the recovery fund that has to go to the cultural sector, too. So in addition to the two point two billion of the new Creative Europe program, we also need support by the member states out of the of the recovery fund, which will be managed mainly by the member states in the end. So we really ask the member states to support also out of this program.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Massimiliano SMERIGLIO (S&amp;D, IT), Rapporteur, Well an excellent agreement, an important agreement for the creative and cultural sectors, of the media and film sector. An important deal because there is a substantial increase in budget of 2.2 billion euros. A good agreement for Parliament, for governance and the role Parliament will play in guiding choices and consolidation of the historical sectors, of cultural events, of the live shows. It is also an important opening to the music sector that will finally have its space in Creative Europe. Lastly an important attention also to social inclusion i.e. to all areas of fragility to allow maximum access to the programme not only in terms of design but also in terms of the use, of choices of what can be done with the Creative Europe programme, so we are really very very satisfied.
