Parliament will discuss its economic, social and employment priorities for the EU and adopt two related resolutions.

The debate and vote tie in with the so-called “European Semester” cycle – the EU’s economic and social policy coordination framework.

MEPs are set to highlight the need to spur growth by boosting competitiveness, while preparing the EU’s economies for geopolitical and climate crisis-related risks. They are also expected to call for a strong social economy and to stress the importance of up- and reskilling, a stronger labour market, and measures to address demographic challenges.

The debate and resolutions will also give MEPs their first opportunity to assess the functioning of the EU’s new economic governance rules.

The European Semester is the EU's annual cycle of economic policy guidance and surveillance. It provides a framework for the coordination of economic policies across the EU. It allows EU countries to discuss their economic and budget plans and monitor progress at specific times throughout the year.
