To conclude her visit to Cyprus, Roberta METSOLA, EP President accompanied by Annita DEMETRIOU, President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, participate to a public event with Youth Organisations and University Students. The debate is named "A look into the future - a discussion on Youth, Cyprus and Europe" and is hosted at the Library of the University of Cyprus.

I get safer food and products. I get cleaner air and water. I get the ability to live and work wherever I want. I get to call home at domestic prices no matter where I am in the EU. I get to pay using one currency in 19 different countries. These are just some of the things I get from the EU.

What do I get from the EU?

After a year of grassroots events, ideas submitted on the multilingual digital platform, discussions and debates, proposals from the Conference on the Future of Europe will be presented to EU institutions. Citizens have been at the heart of the process and the conclusions represent their vision for the EU of tomorrow. The institutions have promised to follow up on the Conference – turning the proposals into concrete policy. The final event will be held at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Europe Day, 9 May, exactly a year after the Conference was launched.

This weekend, citizens, institutions, parliaments, governments and civil society met to discuss the future of Europe. Citizens and European Youth Event representatives brought their proposals on topics like climate, the economy, EU values and international relations.

MEPs backed Ursula von der Leyen’s Commission, which will now take office on 1 December. Parliament also approved the 2020 budget and set an EU goal of climate neutrality by 2050.

MEPs have begun hearings of Commissioners-designate to ensure their suitability for the job and deliver on citizens expectations. Day one saw Trade, Innovation and Inter-institutional relations on the menu. Phil Hogan from Ireland, the Bulgarian Mariya Gabriel and the Slovak Maroš Šefčovič were all heard and questioned by Parliamentary committees. After scrutinising their abilities and plans, Parliament will have the final say on the Commission.
