This infoclip delves into the main aspects of the upcoming regulation on toys safety, which will replace the current directive dating 2009. The new legislation aims to reduce the high number of unsafe toys in the EU, especially those sold online or imported from non-EU countries. Toys should not contain any carcinogenic substances, endocrine disruptors, or PFAS. Digital product passports will help speed up customs checks and improve consumers’ access to safety information. In March 2025, the European Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on new EU toy safety rules to enhance the protection of children’s health and development. The deal strengthens the role of economic operators in improving toy safety, and clarifies requirements for safety warnings and the digital product passport.

In 2024 the Commission opened proceedings against TikTok for not having assessed risks linked to election integrity during the recent Romanian presidential elections. The Commission also proceeded against X and preliminary findings confirmed its breach of the DSA. How can the EU reform its economic model to benefit consumers and the planet? Aimilios in Belgium and Laetitia in France have (part of) the answer!

Aimilios and his Watt4Ever team recondition old electric car batteries to make new energy storage systems, effectively giving batteries a second life and saving precious raw materials and energy while avoiding additional pollution.

Laetitia and “Halte à l'Obsolescence Programmée”, or HOP (“Stop Planned Obsolescence”), campaign for everyday products to last longer and be more repairable.

The European Parliament backs EU-wide measures to promote a circular economy, a right to repair and better recycling of raw materials, to avoid polluting the planet and to benefit your wallet.

EU programmes such as Horizon Europe plus rural and regional development funds make sure such projects get the resources they need.
