November 1989 marks the beginning of the Velvet Revolution which led to the end of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia. Vaclav Havel is the personification of this uprising and the reunification of Europe. During a formal sitting in 2001, he expressed his feelings about being European “I was so obviously and naturally European that I did not even think about it. And I am sure that applies to the majority of Europeans. They are profoundly European but they are not even aware of it.”
