Parliament calls on the Council to finally act to tackle hate speech and hate crime in the EU. The draft report asks for progress on classifying hate speech and hate crime as “EU crimes” - a process stalled in Council since 2022. MEPs highlight the need to ensure all individuals and groups that can become targets of hate are protected, and to ensure that freedom of expression is not exploited to protect hate speech and hate crimes. They are also set to call for an “open-ended” approach whereby incidents would be assessed based on their contextual circumstances. MEP's debate

The Paris Agreement entered into force on 4 November 2016 and as part of it a Global Stocktake takes place every five years. The first-ever stocktake, scheduled to conclude at COP28, aims to provide an overall picture of its implementation progress. Following Hamas’ deadly attack against Israel on 7 October 2023, which claimed the lives of around 1,200 people and resulted in more than 200 people being taken hostage, Israel declared war against the terrorist group. It began striking the Gaza Strip from the air, later sending ground forces into the sealed-off coastal enclave. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 11,000 Palestinians, including a large number of civilians, have so far been killed. MEPs take stock of the latest developments, and discuss the regional and global implications of the renewed hostilities as well as the prospects for peace and security in the Middle East.

Following the Commission’s proposal for a mid-term revision on the EU’s long-term budget (multiannual financial framework, MFF) the full house debate on the proposal of the Committee on Budgets to demand an extra €10 billion for 2024-2027.
