SOUNDBITE (SPANISH), Nadia CALVI&Ntilde;O, ECOFIN President, Thank you for giving us this opportunity to share the priorities of the Spanish presidency with your Committee. The European Parliament is an institution with which we have a very constructive and intense relationship, and we have worked together with the Parliament very well. I'm quite sure that we are going to manage to speed up the work that we are doing, the negotiations that we're carrying out over the next few months, negotiations on files which are absolutely fundamental for the present, but in particular for the future of Europe.

SOUNDBITE (SPANISH), Nadia CALVI&Ntilde;O, ECOFIN President, We have to strengthen the role of the European Union as a global actor and in particular strengthen our strategic alliance with Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. Obviously, Spain is making the most of its opportunity as a doorway into Latin America. And on the occasion of the informal council in Santiago de Compostela, where I think the results were extremely positive as we were able to strengthen that strategic alliance and we were able to further detail the mandate of the UCLAC that we looked at in July.

SOUNDBITE (SPANISH), Nadia CALVI&Ntilde;O, ECOFIN President, I think we are setting up a framework which will allow the European Union to continue to have a strong voice and to continue to have strong global allies in the new global order which is shaping around us. The Spanish presidency, as the Chair has pointed out, as is the last full presidency before the elections, the European Parliament next year and the Spanish presidency is obviously the opportunity to be able to arrive at agreements on some of the most important and strategic files in such a way that we can strengthen internal cohesion of the European Union and also strengthen its position on the world stage.
