Presidents' signature of the joint declaration on the EU's legislative priorities for 2017: extracts from the ceremony

SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, <p>It is the first time that the 3 institutions have come to an agreement of legislation that will be given preferential treatment as of next year. We will hope to make progress in the legislative priorities to be put forward and to reach agreement between the 3 institutions. This agreement has called for readiness to enter into compromise from all sides when it comes to fighting tax avoidance and evasion and posting of workers and its prevision including that in the list of legislative priorities. And in the text it is stated that progress on this front is very necessary.</p>

SOUNDBITE (Slovak), Robert FICO, Slovakian Prime Minister, <p>The common declaration of priorities for next year is a crucial instrument to ensure efficiency and transparency of the internal process of the EU, especially in the area of legislation. At present where we see Euro scepticism on the rise it is all the more important for the institutions to work together in a constructive manner and to complement each other.</p>
