SOUNDBITE (French), Karima DELLI (Greens/EFA, FR), Chair of the TRAN Committee, My dear colleagues, good morning; on the name of the MEPs of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, I'm pleased to welcome Mrs Valean. The Committee on Transport and Tourismis reponsible for a common policy for all means of transport in the EU. We regret that the decision to associate transport and tourism in a same portfolio was not taken in account by the Ec; of course, we will work closely with M. Breton - if his nomination is confirmed - especially on this great part that is tourism.

SOUNDBITE (English), Adina-Ioana V&#258;LEAN, My dear Colleagues, I'm of course in a very special situation, but honoured to be the commissioner designate for a portfolio for transport. I want to share with you a couple of my thoughts regarding this very important portfolio for the European Commission in its next mandate. First of all, the benefits for U.S. citizenship. The freedom to leave, work, study and do business anywhere in Europe is one of the citizens value the most. Transport makes this possible. Mobility and transport are the backbone of the internal market and support the freedom of movement of citizens and goods.
