SOUNDBITE (English), Bertrand PICCARD, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation, SIt was very interesting at the beginning of my project to fly around the world in a solar powered airplane, to have the specialists telling me, you cannot do it because the sun is not getting enough energy to fly an airplane day and night. And this is the typical paradigm of today. We always speak about the quantity of production. We want more supply, more energy. Same thing now for the Russian crisis. We want other supplies of gas. But the first reaction should be efficiency. How to save energy

SOUNDBITE (English), Bertrand PICCARD, It's not enough to say we have to do something without explaining how to do it and what are the solutions to reach the goals. And this is what I'm working on with the Solar Impulse Foundation. We have identified in the world more than 2400 technical solutions that are available today. It's not a big idea for the future. It is economically profitable for the one producing it and for the citizens using it. And it is protecting the environment, offering new opportunities of action.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bertrand PICCARD, But now for me, what is so frustrating is to see the time it takes for these solutions to be known and to be used. And when I'm speaking with ministers of energy or environment, they look at the guide of solutions that we have and this it. But we are not aware that these solutions existed. The European Parliament is much more ambitious than national governments. They allow themselves to put really high targets and to implement the solutions to reach them and.

SOUNDBITE (English), Peter LIESE (EPP, DE), Vice Chair EP delegation, I really hope that we can, first of all, safeguard the international process because we have a real problem with Russian aggression in the Ukraine. We have an energy crisis and it's important to continue the agenda that we started in Glasgow and I'm quite optimistic here. So that's not really somebody who said we need to stop this agenda now. But of course it was not enough what was achieved in Glasgow. That's why I'm very happy that we managed to get the deal on land use and forests to increase our climate target from 55 to 57. I regret a little bit that the European Commission, especially from Timmermans, didn't talk about this earlier

SOUNDBITE (English), Peter LIESE (EPP, DE), So to have it only in the second week of Glasgow, it's a bit late, but still I'm optimistic that we make progress on loss and damage and a little bit progress on ambition. The mood is surprisingly good. So when I'm out also in my constituency, many people are questioning if we really should go ahead with the climate agenda. But the majority of people in Europe want us to go forward and we are managing here. So Europe is doing more than we committed and we go beyond 55% and at least the rest of the world is ready to continue.
