David Sassoli was elected President of the European Parliament on 3 July 2019.

The President represents Parliament in its international relations, and, in this connection, undertakes official visits within and outside the EU.

On 3 July 2019, David Sassoli is elected with 345 votes as the new President of the European Parliament.

He is an Italian politician and journalist. He is a member of the Democratic Party and serves in the European Parliament since 2009.

On 1 July 2014 Sassoli was elected Vice-President of the European Parliament with 393 votes, making him the second most voted Socialist candidate. In 2019, Sassoli was re-elected again in the European Parliament, with 128,533 votes.

David SASSOLI, EP President, launches a new series of dialogues called "Ideas for a new world", with the participation of philosophers, writers, economists, representatives of civil society, and social leaders. The goal is to develop new ideas for post-Covid Europe. To create a Europe that works better and is closer to its citizens in a moment that requires imagination, action, and political courage, breaking from the approaches of the past to face new challenges with new tools.
