Pope Francis (17 December 1936 – 21 April 2025) was the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 2013 to 2025.&nbsp;

He died on Easter Monday, April 21, at the age of 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta. Pope Francis has been buried on 26 of April&nbsp;at Santa Maria Maggiore basilica, which sits outside the Vatican walls in the centre of Rome. The funeral brought together around 400 000 mourners,personalities and politicians.The&nbsp;President of the EP Roberta Metsola attended also the funeral in Rome.
