The Special Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic will holds its constitutive meeting.The new special committee focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic, composed of 38 members. The special committee has been tasked with looking into how the European response to the pandemic and the lessons learned can contribute to future action in the following areas: health; a coordinated approach with respect for democracy and fundamental rights; societal and economic impact; and EU and the World. The special committee will have twelve months to compile its recommendations. It's a special committee that in the next year to come will dive into what happened during the pandemic and how can we learn from the lessons during that pandemic to make the European Union much more stronger and resilient for the next crisis

SOUNDBITE (English), Kathleen VAN BREMPT (S&amp;D, BE), Chair of COVI, We are a committee with a lot of members coming from different committees, so DEVE, INTA, ENVI , so a lot of expertise coming from different parts of the parliament and different parts of Europe, of course, getting their expertise on board together with a lot of people that we will invite, that will be experts that managed the crisis at the member states' ministers from different member states that were very much involved, but also internationally. What happens with international distribution of vaccines, for instance. We will need to get a real focus on all the important questions. What are the lessons learnt?
