SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, We need a good education, we need to have good women and men for the future. You are the future. Europe is our life, is our defence, we are protected. Is it possible today during the global competition to compete as Romania, as Italy, as Germany, as France with China, India, Russia and the USA? We need to compete at a global level which is possible to do only under the European umbrella, but to be European is not against being Romanian. I am European because I am Italian, you are European because you are Romanian, this is very important. We are brothers, we believe in the same values.

SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, There is an extraordinary link which makes it possible for you to go to Rome, to Berlin through Erasmus projects. For our companies it is possible to export inside the EU and to export, trade is important for growth, for jobs. It is possible to strengthen our industry, our agriculture, to put money in favour of European agriculture. It is to increase the number of jobs, to be against youth unemployment, to strengthen SMEs. We need to have a vision.

SOUNDBITE (English), Guy VERHOFSTADT (ALDE, BE), I can tell you one thing. That is the European Parliament will never give a green light for the agreement if the rights of the EU citizens, especially of the students where they can continue their studies, is not guaranteed and safeguarded. For us that is a priority. And I know that is already the case for the whole transition period, we know that the transition period will be at least 2 maybe, President, 4 years. During these 4 years things stay as they are for the moment and I hope that in 4 years you have finished your studies, that is a little wish that I have from my side. But also afterwards, it will be possible for students and for EU citizens to obtain what they call second status, where they can continue their rights in the future.

SOUNDBITE (English), Guy VERHOFSTADT (ALDE, BE), And lastly, President, I am of the opinion that we need on the Erasmus programme to continue the things as they are. That means all students can go to the UK and also UK students can go to the mainland, to the continent. Because students if you are British or not, or Romanian you cannot be the victim of what is in my opinion as stupid decision that has been take by Britain to leave Europe.

SOUNDBITE (English), Udo BULLMANN (S&amp;D, DE), The world is changing very quickly and what we have to do if this vocational training, if this academic training we have to improve the conditions of people wherever and whenever in their life, to take additional courses, to take additional qualifications and that has to be more easy than it was in the past. So our universities, our schools, our labour market have to be prepared for this increase of flexibility and also our support schemes have to be improved. So if you decide in mid of your 30s or in your early 40s on taking an additional qualification, you need support and you deserve support, and that has to be also mirrored in our social security systems. So there is a huge amount of necessary change to be done to rightly support people who are in this situation.
