SOUNDBITE (Italian), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), The most important fact is that we are close to an agreement; on the other hand, the drafts that are circulating seem to be slim and interesting. The elements that we still need to focus on are: the issue of the 5-year revision - or rather if we will be able to rehash the agreement every 5 years, how to implement and control the reduction levels of these greenhouse gas emissions, and third, the issue related to the green fund, that is the financing for the poorer and developing countries in order to facilitate their access to the new low impact technologies in order to have a "de-carbonisation" of our economy.

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), We need more resources, currently there are 62 out of the 100 billion euros that we pledged on making available by 2020 for low impact investments with the goal of the "de-carbonisation". Europe makes a third of the current green fund resources available but more needs to be done and in order to do so we need the collaboration of more Countries and for this reason we welcome the enlargement for other Countries to contribute to the green fund because in this way we will be able to do more, better and faster.

SOUNDBITE (English), Kathleen VAN BREMPT (S&amp;D, BE), By 2050 we should reach 100 percent or 95 or 97 percent renewable energy. So completely independent of the rest of the world and completely renewable and that combines of course very high targets on energy sufficiency. Second item which is very import, we know that frightens the continent of Africa, a lot of people don&rsquo;t even have access to electricity and that is very important for their education and their development, but let&rsquo;s not make the mistake to go via the fossil fuels, let&rsquo;s make sure that we have all the means in place to make a whole leap right to the renewables

SOUNDBITE (English), Kathleen VAN BREMPT (S&amp;D, BE), In Europe frightens we need to invest in the transition of our energy system anyway regardless of the choices, and then let&rsquo;s make the right choice right from the start. Second making sure that we will not invest in fossil fuels is also very beneficiary for other sectors that are important, let&rsquo;s think about the clean air. People are really concerned about the air they breathe in the cities of Europe. Let&rsquo;s go to 100 percent renewable and if we will electrify our transport system, we will breathe clean air.
