SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation to the COP22, To meet our 2030 climate change target, the ETS must be reformed and it is crucial that the ETS is able to reflect the Paris Agreement going forward. Discussions on the Commission&rsquo;s proposal, which was published in July last year are still on-going in the European Parliament, although we are making efforts in order to achieve a good and balanced result in the vote and to finalise our position in the coming weeks.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation to the COP22, In particular, we feel that insufficient progress has been made in Greenhouse Gas emissions reductions in the transport sector with respect to the 2020 targets and therefore efforts need to be scaled up in view of this sectors contribution to emission reductions up to 2030.

SOUNDBITE (English), Giovanni LA VIA (EPP, IT), Head of the EP Delegation to the COP22, International aviation and shipping are not mentioned in the Paris Agreement, we believe that in light of their constantly growing climate impact, insufficient action in the aviation and maritime sector at ICAO and IMO level could jeopardise the efforts being made by other sectors.
